It isn't surprising that Tim McGraw was recently named host of the ABC country music special CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock, as the country musician was honored with the People Magazine's hottest male country star this month as well.
"The summer's hottest concert special just got hotter with the addition of Tim McGraw as host," Steve Moore, Chairman of the CMA Board of Directors said to RTT News. "He is a dynamic performer and [has] an undeniable chemistry and relationship with the fans." McGraw dominates the headlines this week in support of Nashville Rising, a flood relief concert event for June 22nd at the Bridgestone Arena that benefits Tennessee. McGraw is also touring in support of Southern Voice, helping to make Tim McGraw tickets easily accessible online.
McGraw's face covers People Magazine's special country issue thanks to his rigorous diet and exercise schedule. "I don't feel whatever 43 is supposed to feel like," he says in the special June issue. "I still feel pretty young. I'm more confident than I've ever been about who I am and what I do and I feel like I've got a lot more ahead of me than I do behind me."
The father of three abstains from alcohol and has a workout routine that helps maintain his physique. While he's excited about the title, he is just as appreciative of his success as ever before.
"As a kid when you dream about being a rock star I don't think you ever dream about being in the studio singing the same over and over again," he says to People TV. "I think you dream about being on the stage, having people screaming and yelling. It's fun, it's a great job. I'm glad I'm able to do it."
McGraw and his wife Faith Hill continue to add more country music stars to their concert event sponsoring the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Additions to the flood relief concert continue to be made as Toby Keith (one of many victims of the flooding), Montgomery Gentry, Julie Roberts, Blake Shelton and others will join the all-star lineup for Nashville concert. Both McGraw and Hill are expected to perform alongside their friends during the event, which has been sandwiched between McGraw's St. Louis and Milwaukee shows.
Though today McGraw is a household name, it took him much longer than other country stars to get there. During the '90s, few would expect this Delhi, La. native to take over the country music charts as a replacement for Garth Brooks, but that is just what McGraw has done. Though he was always a lover of music, McGraw didn't fall into the industry until college when he was studying sports medicine at Northeast Louisiana University.
Eventually he dropped out of school to try out Nashville, where he was given a recording deal but saw little success on the charts. It wasn't until 1994, after nearly a decade in the business, that McGraw saw a breakthrough hit in "Indian Outlaw" and hasn't looked back since.
