Used Honda vehicles are considered to be some of the most dependable used cars that money can buy. Even with such a great reputation, though, you can not always know that the used Honda that you are considering is actually a good buy, unless, of course, you go to Honda dealers that offer Approved Used Hondas. These approved vehicles can only be found at qualified Honda dealers in good standing and strict guidelines must be adhered to for a used Honda to be approved.

Getting approved is no easy process and most cars are automatically eliminated because they do not adhere to the two most important rules, which are that the car must be less than six years old and have less than 80,000 miles on the clocks. It is important to realise that cars must adhere to both of these standards, not just one or the other.

Next, factory-trained technicians evaluate every major system on each vehicle and if any Honda part does not meet the standard, they can recondition them. If the part cannot be reconditioned, they just replace it with a genuine Honda part.

After this process, the Honda dealer is required to run a vehicle history report, which contains the vehicles documented history. This report uncovers any reported incidents that the DVLA has received. If a car has been damaged, has a history of engine issues or has been salvaged, the report will show it. Every Honda dealer keeps a copy of this report and they will let you see it if you request to.

The last test is the most comprehensive evaluation on the way to approval. This is known as the 150-point inspection. It is a detailed evaluation of the vehicles appearance and mechanical function and the inspection also includes the verification of documents and manuals and a confirmation of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The VIN inspection is done first by checking the doors VIN label, all VIN repairs or recalls (if any) and finally, the VIN plate. Then, they will replace any fluids, filters, floor mats or tyres so that the new owner can get the vehicle on a new maintenance schedule. And of course, they evaluate and replace (as necessary) the brake pads and shoes.

Next up is the road test, in order to verify the cars starting and idling temperatures. The technician is also looking for consistent acceleration and driving, as well as normal sounds. The car can not just look right on paper, it has to drive properly as well.

Lastly, the car is inspected visually to look for any unauthorized aftermarket modifications, such as exhaust systems or wheels. Any unauthorized aftermarket parts are then replaced by genuine Honda parts.

If the vehicle passes this exhaustive inspection, it can be made available to any of the Honda dealers around the world. As mentioned, anything that fails inspection is reconditioned or replaced and if that does not solve the problem, the car fails inspection, which is the way that you can know that the used Honda you are considering is a good quality vehicle.
