6 Things To Keep In Mind When You're Buying A New Car

Choosing a new car can be a difficult process as the market is so broad and to ensure that you pick the most suitable car for you, you should always keep in mind the following 6 points.

1. The first and foremost point that most need to keep in mind is the price of the car. Whilst it would be fantastic to be able to go out and spend GBP 30,000 on a brand new, top of the range car, you should set yourself a budget that you can realistically afford and stick to it when you go to any of the car dealers

2. The size of the car's engine is particularly important, as generally speaking, the larger the engine, the more powerful it is. If you therefore need a powerful car to pull, for example, a caravan, you might consider heading to one of the many Volvo dealers and buying a Volvo XC60, as they are notorious for being powerhouses. Conversely, whilst Volvo dealers do stock smaller engined cars, you might be better off looking elsewhere for something that is a little smaller in terms of its engine size

3. The number of doors that the car has actually plays a bigger role in buying a new car than most would first believe. For example, you might think that 2 doors would be more than suitable for you and your partner at the moment. If you're considering starting a family in the next year or two, however, you might be better off thinking about a car with 5 doors, as the additional doors will allow for much easier access to the rear of the car

4. If you are thinking about starting a family, then boot space should play a large part in the decision to buy a new car. You might only have the necessary car accessories to place in a boot at the minute, but with children you need to take into consideration push chairs and baby bags, as well as all of the usual boot items

5. Whilst it may not seem like a massive point initially, the type of fuel that the car uses should always be kept in mind. Although petrol is the most common fuel type, diesel should be considered if you want to achieve the maximum MPG ratio you can, especially over short distances.

In addition, electric or LPG cars are also becoming increasingly popular and although not as widespread as some would like, they are available and can help reduce fuel costs phenomenally.

6. All cars in the UK are only allowed to travel at a maximum speed of 70 miles per hour, which is the speed limit on the majority of roads that have two or more lanes heading in one direction. Therefore, if you are planning on travelling at this speed regularly, you want to ensure that the new car you choose is capable of reaching and maintaining this speed.

Most petrol and diesel cars will be able to touch 70 miles per hour with relative ease and the only versions that may struggle are those with engines smaller than 1 litre (such as most of the SMART car models). However, some electric cars will not be able to reach this speed currently, although many Volvo dealers are expected to be stocking an electric version of the C30 in the next few years, which Volvo states will have a top speed of approximately 81 miles per hour.
