After living in San Diego for a few years, I really wanted to move someplace else. Don't get me wrong, San Diego is really nice, but my heart belongs to Florida! When I was younger we moved around a lot, so now I can hardly stay in a place for very long without getting antsy. I know the Real Estate industry isn't at its best right now. But, I also knew that if I could advertise my home in enough places and to enough people that eventually the house could indeed be sold - and for the price I wanted. A friend of mine suggested that I find an online classifieds or American classifieds site to post free classified ads on, supposedly she found all sorts of ads on there that got her some really cool things like dogs for sale, houses for rent and vacation timeshares!
I hadn't really done anything like this before so I was a little iffy. I did find a buyer for my home on these sites and I am now living in Florida. So here, I would like to offer you some advice on posting your own homes in hopes that you too have the same "luck" that I did!
First off, make sure you post on relevant sites or in relevant categories. Why? Well of course because you want people to actually find your ad. If you are posting dogs for sale in the electronics section, people probably won't ever find it. And if they do, they are going to be annoyed you put it in the wrong place! There is an array of categories to choose from so make sure you choose the right one. If you aren't sure, then post in the closest one related to your product or service you are selling. You can choose from houses for rent, houses for sale, apartments for rent, condos for rent, condos for sale, land for sale, land for rent, etc. Surely you can find a relevant section!
Next, make sure you post a detailed, but not too long explanation of the home/condo/apartment/land whatever it is. It should be anywhere from 1 paragraph to 3 paragraphs. Each paragraph should be 3-4 sentences long. Be sure you include dimensions, features, type of home, age, where its located (beach, suburbs, city), how many rooms, how much space is available, etc. You are essentially writing to the buyer of your home. So don't just splat down some words and home it works. If you are bad with words, get someone else to write it for you!
Also, make sure you post some photos! Visualization is key here. You can talk and talk and talk about how amazing the home is, but if people can't see it and get "wowed" chances are they won't read the ad. I know for me personally, the second I am looking for anything on these online classifieds, I scroll down and look for a picture. If a picture isn't included, then I move onto the next ad!
Lastly, make sure you leave a way for people to contact you. I can't tell you how many times I find a really nice product on an American classifieds site and there is no one to contact, they forgot! Make sure you add a phone number or email address. If you want to be more private you can also post a free anonymous encrypted email address as well. That way people can contact you, but they can't SEE your real email address!
