A Few Tips To Find Low Hotel Rates

If you are anything like me and my family, you are always itching to plan a vacation, but you still have to operate on a budget. When you see hotel rates in the hundreds of dollars per night, you probably feel like you're going to faint.

Trust me, I know how you feel, especially because my spouse worked for a famous hotel chain for the first year of our marriage, so I was spoiled with spacious suites and luxurious rooms at devastatingly low rates. But now we have to muddle through and find vacation deals on our own.

Somehow we manage. We vacation on a regular basis, so I have learned a few of the tricks of the trade. Let me share some of them with you so you can be prepared for your next getaway.

One of the best ways to get lower rates is to schedule your hotel stay during midweek. Staying anytime between Sunday night and Thursday night will give you the benefit of up to fifty percent--sometimes even more during the off-season--off the typical weekend rate.

The internet now boasts a wide array of travel sites that skip the travel agent and allow you to find deals on your own. However, be wary of booking through sites like these. Some of them charge steep fees on top of that "great deal" that you snagged through them.

Sometimes, however, their fees can be worth it. If you want to find out, when you are eyeballing a particular hotel, you will want to check their official website for the dates you would like to stay. Compare the numbers you see to help you make a decision.

Many of these sites have sections--and there are other specialty sites--that are devoted to "last-minute" sales so that airlines and hotels can fill up their empty spaces. These can be beneficial, but be aware that some of them do not give you the name of the hotel where you will be staying until after you have booked your stay.
For some, especially if you really are planning a last-minute escape, this is not a problem, particularly if you have a GPS system to guide you through an unfamiliar area. But this may make some uncomfortable. It has to be your decision.

Find hotels with freebies. While the rates may not be necessarily what you consider "low," you may be pleased with money you would save with the things they throw in. For example, a hotel that throws in a continental breakfast may save your family a significant amount of money.

Other hotels will even give you tickets to local attractions, which, if you were planning on visiting them anyway, can save you a tremendous amount of money.

These are just a few tips you should consider. Ask your friends and family for more advice, and you are sure to find a great hotel and a comfortable stay.
