Evaluate Your Party Before Planning The Menu

Planning a party can be a stressful event. You need to consider what activities to offer, what food to prepare, how to decorate and so much more. Food often can make or break a party. So before you begin baking or cooking evaluate your party to determine what food you should serve. Knowing specifics about your party will help you plan the perfect menu to please all your guests.

First determine why you are throwing the party. If you are throwing a birthday party, then a cake is a must. If it is a Super Bowl party, your menu will be slightly different. Also decide if you want to have a full meal at your party or just food for your guest to snack on throughout the party. You can also think about the style of party. Determine if it is going to be a sit-down elegant affair or a casual party.

Also you want to select a menu that works for the time of day you are throwing your party. If your party is earlier in the day, you need to decide if you want to do a brunch or lunch type menu. If you haven't yet decided what time the party will be, you could decide on parts of the menu and allow that to determine what time of day you will have the party. If you don't like breakfast-type food, don't throw a party in the morning, or if you must have ice cream at your party consider planning the time for later in the afternoon or evening (unless you want to have an ice cream for breakfast party).

Next take a look at your guest list and evaluate your guests. Are you throwing the party for children, adults or a mix of the two? If the party is primarily for children it is a good idea to choose food that children enjoy and won't make too much of a mess. If the party is a family gathering with both adults and children plan a menu that will please both adults and children.

Sometimes having more than one option is good. If you are having a barbecue, you could have hotdogs for the kids and steak for the adults. Also consider the drinks when there are children coming, you don't want to only have alcoholic options if there will be children there.

Knowing how many people will be attending is also important when planning the food. It can become very expensive to feed an entire crowd of people a full meal.

By taking a few moments before creating the menu for your party and determining these few details, you'll be better prepared to feed and please anyone attending your party.
