Making a home improvement to the backyard can greatly affect the resale value of a home and provide a pleasant atmosphere to relax in at the end of a long day. Where a property has been built on a large lot there are a number of different options that can be incorporated to beautify the land leading away from the backdoor. Some people prefer to incorporate an expansive wooden deck from the back of their house out over the lawn that has plenty of room for entertaining and can easily fit a barbeque grill and lounge chairs for relaxing in.

In place of using a wood deck, other homeowners might choose paving stones or cement to create a patio that stretches a meter or two from their house to meet the edge of the grass. Still others may include a rockery in their landscaping of the lawns and garden and might even opt to put in a water feature to mimic a more natural setting for their outdoor retreat. Of course most owners will build a fence around the perimeter of their property to keep the neighborhood pets out of their yard and their own animals, or children from wandering off.

In a few more exclusive residences the inclusion of a swimming pool and hot tub adds to the refinement of the stately home and when combined with some of the other features like a large patio area and bricked barbeque station the entertainment possibilities are even greater. But even if the owner decides to stay with a traditional lot that is seeded with grass, trees, and shrubs there is still one other item that will be constructed within each of the aforementioned yard treatments--and that is a gardening shed, or cabanon as it is commonly referred to in French.

Living in Canada a number of residences speak only French and in the eastern provinces especially the language is used extensively. In households within Quebec for instance, the backyards and luscious lawns that are groomed and manicured with all sorts of mowing and trimming equipment, often include a cabanon to keep each of the items stored in and out of the way when they are not being used. Rather than taking up valuable space in the garage the gardening tools, mowers, pool, and patio equipment can be stored closer to the actual location where it will be utilized and leave enough space for the cars to be parked side by side in the garage and out of the way. With the maintenance devices safely stored in a shed the homeowner can enjoy the splendor of their outdoor oasis regardless of what they have chosen to do with the landscaping of their backyard.
