Fathers Day Is A Day of Celebrating Fatherhood

There is a story told of elephants that live around a certain village in Africa. For generations the people and elephants lived in harmony, until poachers killed all the male adult elephants for their tusks. The young, adolescent elephants without the example of their more mature male elders ran amuck causing considerable damage to the village, trampling houses, people and just general wanton destruction. The biologist noticed that the absence of mature, responsible male elephants left the younger ones without guidance and no road map to follow on how to behave appropriately. I think the same holds true for our youth today.

Society has been telling us for over a generation that fathers aren't really needed in the home; that single women can raise children as well by themselves as with a male spouse. It isn't true. The youth need father figures to help them grow into responsible, law abiding, contributing men. Fathers are not disposable and optional they are vital to the rearing and developing of male characters. Children need fathers, they need them in the home, whenever possible, they need love, guidance, loving discipline, support and consistency that men can offer.

That is why I love Fathers day. We need to show appreciation, gratitude and honor to these great men that we call husbands and fathers. We have to let them know how important we view the job they are doing. Celebrate responsible manhood. We actually celebrated Fathers Day late in our family, as we were on a family vacation driving 10 hours back home on June 20, so we celebrated a month later, we stopped for a minute in our busy world and let the important men in our life know what we think of them.

The hardest part of fathers day for me is to know what the right gift is. I want the important men in my life, my father and husband to know how much I love and appreciate them. For my father-in-law the task is always easy, he always wants gm parts accessories for his little '67 Corvette, it is his baby and he never tires of little gizmos and gadgets for it. He loves old Corvettes and spent many hours with his boys teaching them about engines and cars. Great life lessons were taught under the hood of a car. My father is a little harder, as his interest are varied; my husband is always happy with fishing, camping or hunting gear. Does a new fishing pole say "I love you?" Apparently it does.

Fathers day, a great American institution, a day set aside to show those that sacrifice, love and care for us that we love and appreciate all that they do. A day to show that we value father and that it is a noble and responsible role that that they play.
