John Mayer doesn't exactly seem like the typical country musician. In fact, few could picture him with a Stetson and cowboy boots. That hasn't stopped the famed singer/songwriter, though, from teaming with country stars and events, which have kept him in the country music headlines. One such appearance came from a recent episode of CMT Crossroads. The show pairs a famed country musician with a non-country talent, and Mayer was paired with Keith Urban. The show aired for the first time on Friday, June 18.

The episode, like other episodes of CMT Crossroads, featured the artists taking on each other's catalogues. From Mayer's collection, they played "Perfectly Lonely" and "Gravity." They also performed Urban's "'Til Summer Comes Around" and "Sweet Thing." Both artists spoke to Gibson about the experience, and Urban said of Mayer, "I think in the case of John and I, we both play guitar. We both sing. We both write songs. I'm trying to find a lot of the commonality between us, where you can actually see the connection between his music and mine."

This episode of CMT Crossroads wasn't Mayer's first experience on the show. He also appeared in an episode with Brad Paisley, who, like Mayer, is known for his guitar work.
Urban and Mayer gave fans a preview before CMT Crossroads aired at the 2010 CMT Music Awards in Nashville, Tenn. on June 9. Mayer and Urban performed Urban's song "Hit the Ground Runnin'." Although many other non-country stars were presenters, Mayer showed he is in the country music world's good graces by performing. Other artists to perform included perennial country favorites like Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw and Miranda Lambert. Mayer and Urban have also booked a concert date together on Aug. 28 at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington.

He continued his country kick at the Songwriters Hall of Fame gala on Thursday, June 15 in New York. There, he presented country sweetheart Taylor Swift with the Hal David Starlight Award. According to the San Francisco Gate, Mayer said of Swift during his introduction that Taylor Swift's talent transcends time, and she would be successful in any decade because of her songwriting. Many of Mayer's fans would say the same of him.

Mayer isn't simply stating his opinion of Taylor Swift from what he has observed; he has also worked with the star firsthand. His latest single is "Half of My Heart," which features Swift. The video for the single shows Mayer as a groom who leaves his bride at the altar, but Swift wasn't part of the video. The song appears on his latest album, 2009's Battle Studies. Battle Studies has also yielded the singles "Who Says" and "Heartbreak Warfare."

Mayer has many dates lined up for the summer months to support Battle Studies. Mayer's tour features a furious touring schedule, with three or more concerts every week. The tour includes spots like Cincinnati, Toronto, Los Angeles, Phoenix and many more. Check out the schedule of upcoming stops and then get John Mayer tickets online.
