John Mayer was forced to cancel his European tour dates in early June due to an undisclosed illness, but Contact Music reports that the Battle Studies singer has made a full recovery. On June 17, Mayer performed a late-night surprise gig at Manhattan's Village Underground. Mayer announced the New York show on his Twitter account the day before (June 16) and tweeted after the impromptu performance: "Thanks all for coming...XO."

To recap, John Mayer's scheduled European dates were scrapped when the singer came down with something (it was later confirmed to be a bad bout of food poisoning) in late May. A statement on his official website read: "After a sold-out performance in Copenhagen, John Mayer was forced to cancel his second show there on 5/31 due to illness. Regrettably, the illness has caused his remaining European shows scheduled through this week to be canceled as well (Amsterdam, Madrid and Manchester)...Mayer is returning home to the States, and a full recovery is expected under a doctor's supervision."

Fans with John Mayer tickets to see the singer on the North American leg of his current tour can rest easy, as his shows throughout the summer are still on. Mayer will kick off the next leg of his tour in Charlotte, N.C. on July 16 and will perform in cities like Wantagh, N.Y.; Bristow, Va.; Mansfield, Mass.; Hartford, Conn.; Toronto, ON; Mountain View, Calif.; Los Angeles, Calif.; George, Wash.; Orange Beach, Ala.; Tampa, Fla. and more through mid-September. Get your John Mayer tickets online today.

Mayer's tour is in support of his fourth and most recent album, Battle Studies, which arrived last fall. Featuring the folk-pop song "Who Says" and his duet with Taylor Swift, "Half of My Heart," Battle Studies continues Mayer's tradition of releasing infectious pop-rock tunes in the same vein as the single that launched his career back in 2000: "Your Body Is A Wonderland." Although Mayer won't be completely giving up his acoustic guitar in favor of cowboy boots anytime soon, the rocker has been dipping his toes into country music recently.

John Mayer took the stage at the CMT Music Awards to perform "Hit the Ground Runnin'" in early June and appeared on CMT Crossroads with Keith Urban on June 18. The pair of Grammy winners shared the stage on CMT Crossroads to collaborate on Urban's hits-like "'Til Summer Comes Around" and "Sweet Thing"-and Mayer's smash singles-like "Perfectly Lonely" and "Gravity."

Speaking to The Boot about the experience, Urban revealed, "Doing Crossroads was great. I find a great common ground with John as we play. We come at it differently, because we have different musical styles that we were influenced by. But I think there's a middle ground somewhere. It all sort of connects somehow." Mayer previously appeared on the popular series with rock great John Fogerty.

Mayer previously collaborated with another country star, Taylor Swift, and was on hand to present the 20-year-old singer with the Hal David Starlight Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony on June 17. During the New York event Mayer said, "You could put her in a time machine in any era and she would have a hit record. Don't confuse everybody loving one thing as hype. Sometimes that's everyone agreeing that its fabulous."
