According to the company themselves, there are Aston Martin dealers in no less than 31 separate countries. One of the most illustrious car makers of all time, the following are 23 highlights from a company that is almost a century old.

1. The original name of the company was Bamford and Martin Limited

2. The company name is taken from the name of one of the two founders, Lionel Martin and the track where he used to race, Aston Hill and was given to the company in 1914, a year after it was first created

3. Lionel Martin and his partner, Robert Bamford produced the very first Aston Martin car in March 1915, from a building in the Chelsea area of London

4. The first time an Aston Martin car was seen on an international racing circuit was in 1922 when they competed in the French Grand Prix

5. 6 years after their French Grand Prix entry, they entered the 24 hour Le Mans in 1928

6. 1937 saw 140 cars built, which was the most any car factory had produced in a single year prior to World War 2

7. Aston Martin entered a prototype DB2 into the Le Mans race in 1949

8. 2 years later the DB2 came first, second and third in its class in the same race

9. Just before entering the 1960s, a ten year span which proved to be highly successful for Aston Martin, the company won the World Sportscar Championship in the DBR1

10. The DB5 began to be produced in 1963, a year before it made its famous appearance in the James Bond film Goldfinger and two years before to its successor, the DB6, went into production in 1965

11. The stunning V8 Vantage was first produced in 1977, leading the way for some of the most beautiful cars in the world to be designed over the coming decades

12. 10 years after the first V8 Vantage, Ford took a majority share in the company, buying a substantial 75 percent in 1987

13. In 1994, Ford took a full holding of the company, the same year that the well received DB7 began production

14. The turn of the new millennium saw the first production of the V12 Vanquish in 2001

15. A year later in 2002 and the company reunite their relationship with Zagato, the Italian coach producers, to offer the DB7 Zagato, a limited edition model

16. The company hit a record in 2003 as the 7,000th DB7 is produced

17. Considering the amount of cars that have been created throughout the company's history, 2003 was also the same year that the very first purpose built factory was opened

18. A year after the factory was opened in Gaydon, the company began producing the famous DB9 and sending it around the world to Aston Martin dealers

19. Only 3 years after hitting the 7,000th DB7 record, the Gaydon factory delivers the 30,000th car

20. With the first appearance in a James Bond film being a success for the company, it is surprising that it took until 2006 for them to reappear in the series, this time in Casino Royale with a world first, the DBS

21. On the 12 March 2007, Aston Martin is sold to Investment Dar and Adeem Investment for 479 million dollars, according to the BBC

22. 3 months on and the takeover proved to be no hindrance at all to the company, as they stormed to victory in the Le Mans 24 hour in the DBR9

23. Just less than 2 years later in March 2009 and the company announce their fastest Vantage ever, the V12 Vantage.
