When someone purchases a yacht, they have undoubtedly invested much time and money in the purchase. A yacht is a wonderful asset which makes it something to care for and have pride in. Most yacht owners are interested in collecting a proper crew for their new, expensive toy. There are quite a few members that should be hired in order to have a properly crewed yacht.

First, there's the captain. No crew would be complete without a yacht captain. Everyone answers to the captain and the captain is in charge. It takes much experience and training in order to handle the responsibilities that are given to the position of the captain. That is why it is essential to pick a good one.

Next, there's first mate. This position is the second in line for all power. The first mate reports to the captain. In order to be a first mate, much qualification is needed as well. Certain skills along with a certain number of hours at sea are required. Typically, the responsibilities of the first mate would be to oversee the exterior crew such as the second and third officers as well as the deck hands.

A steward or stewardess is another essential part of a yacht crew. As opposed to the first mate, a stewardess' job on a yacht is to take care of the interior of the yacht. This includes keeping the interior clean regarding all aspects. A well-trained steward or stewardess is one who is taught about safety, social responsibility, professional etiquette and more.

Engineers are an absolute must-have for a yacht. They typically hold the highest paid position on board - including the captain. They are skilled and able to handle all things regarding the mechanical and electronic aspects of the vessel. In order for someone to properly qualify for such a job, they would have to be highly trained in how to handle the equipment of the vessel.

Yacht chefs are optional but usually recommended for planning nad preparing all meals at sea. Deckhands are an entry level positions and are a great asset to have onboard. They should be able to do a variety of helpful things on a vessel. It's always a good idea to have deckhands on board as they are usually handy in any situation. While sailing qualifications are not necessary, it is helpful. So bare that in mind when hiring them.
