The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) gives the returning student an opportunity to obtain a degree based on what has been learned in a lifetime either through school studies, travel, culture, military school or any other learning experience. The CLEP exam consists of about thirty four individual tests that are either general in subject or based on a specific subject. Acceptance to a college or university through the CLEP exam is based on the final grade received on the test. Each college and university has its own acceptance policies.

Taking the test is not without costs involved. The college or university will charge you approximately seventy dollars to take the test plus whatever charge is added by the testing company. Taking the College Level Examination Program exam will give you the opportunity to get your college degree faster, using the credit you receive for what you already know.

The schedule for CLEP exams varies from one college or university to the next. If you are interested in taking the CLEP exam you should call the Registrar's office of the college or university of your choice, and get all of the information regarding the testing schedules, requirements and the complete amount for the fees.

A test should never be taken unprepared, and this exam is certainly no exception to this rule. You should be thoroughly prepared to take the CLEP exam. This is especially true if you have been away from academia for any length of time, and have lost your familiarity with testing. In order to prepare for it you can get the Official Study Guide 2010 as this is a great place to start. The guide has sample questions that are like the questions you will be asked on the actual CLEP exam. This will give you the opportunity to recall the testing experience, as well as to familiarize you with the type of questions you will have to answer on the CLEP exam.

The exams contained in the Official Study Guide 2010 will give you the self confidence you will need to take the exam at the scheduled date and time. After you have taken this exam all you have to do is sit back and wait for the results. You will receive the grade and your acceptance (or rejection) letter from the college or university within two weeks of the testing date. If you received a rejection, you take the exam again.
