Comedian Gabriel Iglesias has mastered his brand of hilarity, a key component of which is his physical appearance. Some may call Iglesias "fat," but he has labeled himself "fluffy" instead, prompting others to do the same. In fact, his website is even called FluffyGuy and features T-shirts for sale that go all the way up to size 6XL. Forget "weight challenged," with Iglesias' popularity, "fluffy" may just become the next politically-correct term for someone who is overweight.
Over Valentine's Day weekend, Iglesias showed that he is larger-than-life in another way by rising to the ranks of such heavyweights of comedy as Jerry Seinfeld and George Lopez. Iglesias sold out two shows at San Antonio's Majestic Theatre. Selling out multiple dates at the famed location put him with the likes of comedians who have done the same before him, such as Seinfeld and Lopez. He opened up to the Express News about the accomplishment and said, "It's surreal, man. I totally feel like I'm along for the ride. I remember coming to San Antonio for the first time for the Latino Laugh Festival and thinking, 'Wow, it can't get better than this.' And then every year I've been saying that."
His current success doesn't mean that it has all been coming up roses for Iglesias, however, as TMZ reported a scare he had recently. According to the gossip site, Iglesias received two threats while in Los Angeles in early February. The threats came in the form of an email and a voicemail and told him to "be careful" during his stay in Los Angeles. Iglesias didn't let the threats slow him down and instead increased his security and got back to business as usual. TMZ also revealed that he joked about the incident during his show that night.
Upcoming dates for Iglesias include stops in St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Orlando, Indianapolis, Boston and New York. Gabriel Iglesias tickets are becoming increasingly popular, and fans can find theirs online.
He has been featured at many Latino festivals, but Gabriel Iglesias can make just about anyone laugh. His comedic style is easily relatable and combines storytelling and sound effects. He was born in San Diego, Calif. and spent most of his childhood in Long Beach. He had a natural knack for comedy from a young age, and that soon led him into standup. His ability to retell his real-life experience (complete with different voices for the characters) endeared him to fans and set him on the path to success.
After making a name for himself on the comedy circuits as well as making a few television appearances, he appeared on the television comedy competition Last Comic Standing. Although he didn't win, his name was then becoming nationally known. He had his own Comedy Central special in 2007 called Gabriel Iglesias: Hot and Fluffy. He had another in 2009 called Gabriel Iglesias: I'm Not Fat... I'm Fluffy. Also in 2009, he released a double-disc CD set called We Love Fluffy. He also released a live DVD from his performance in El Paso. His comedy star is definitely on the rise, and his live shows are a perfect way to experience his brand of comedy.
