A common category of signs is regulatory traffic signs. These include directional and informational type signage, and symbols.
They are typically white rectangular signs with black, red or green lettering or figures. They are seen on all types of road, including highways, intersections, secondary, and residential streets.

The HOV lane is also known as the fast lane because usually in traffic vehicles are not slowed down as much as the lanes on the right. Usually there are only certain areas of entry into the fast lane so as to keep a consistent pace.
"Private Drive No Thru Traffic" is typically placed in an area where it looks like the street continues, but is really a drive way to a residential home. Homeowners put this down next to the street to notify drivers that their driveway is not a street.
"No Turn On Red" is placed for the right lane at a traffic light. Typically drivers can legally make a right-hand turn at a red light after yielding, but this sign indicates not to do so.
"Bus Lane Ahead" indicates that public transportation vehicles will be driving in that lane. It notifies drivers to move over if they do not want to be slowed down by the pace of the large buses.
"Road Closed to Thru Traffic" is placed in areas where road construction is or in a commercial area where truck deliver supplies. "Thru Traffic" is any vehicle not choosing that location as their destination.
If the sign is in a residential area where construction is being done on the pavement, for example, than only people who live in that neighborhood and need to go on the street to get home are allowed to drive through. All other traffic is prohibited.
"Weight Limit 10 Tons" is usually placed on a bridge or overpass. It notifies drivers of large vehicles, like semi-trucks, to only drive on the bridge if their load does not exceed 10 tons.
"Left Turn Yield On Green" is at intersections with traffic lights and a left-hand turning lane. This tells driver who are wanting to turn left that they need to wait for and be aware of oncoming traffic before they make their turn.
"Photo Enforced" is a warning sign to drivers who may speed or run a red light. This indicates that there is a camera that will take a picture of you, your car, and your license plate number if you break any traffic laws and send you a ticket via the mail.
"Slower Traffic Keep Right" is a motion for vehicles on the highway to keep right if other cars are going faster than them. This allows the faster cars to pass them safely.
"Do Not Stop On Tracks" is placed at railroad tracks. It warns drivers to not stop on the railroad tracks as trains may be coming and cause an accident.
"Stay In Lane" is usually a sign placed while road construction is going on. Typically drivers may switch lanes as they please, but this tells them to stay in the lane they are currently driving in.
