If you are visiting the Calgary area then the best way to move around is to look at hiring a car. It gives you so much more freedom to explore the area and to do so at your own pace. However if you are going to be looking for car rentals in Calgary then you do have a few things that you should consider before you agree to anything.

Of course what you should do first of all is search online. Your results shall be dominated by the main hire companies that appear all over the world but it is also a good idea to look past them to more local businesses.

Within the results you should consider how many of you are going to be in the car and also how much luggage you are going to have on a daily basis. Obviously if you are staying in a hotel then you only have things for that day. However if you are going to go camping for example in the area once you get there you shall perhaps need something that is bigger.

You also do have to consider the type of driving that you are going to be doing as this can determine the car you choose. Are you purely staying to the main roads in towns and cities or are you going a bit off the beaten track. If you are then you are going to need something that can cope with those harsher road conditions.

The same can be said about the time of year that you are going to be going. In the winter you are going to require something that can deal with the worse weather and it should be equipped to deal with that. If it is the summer months then you do not need to worry about getting stuck or stranded due to snow or the cold.

It is also best to shop around and compare what the same size or type of car costs in different places. You do need to search using the exact same terms in order to get the comparisons but also check the small print for the hire. A lower price may end up having some nasty surprises should you end up having an accident. It is always best to be that bit more careful.

When you go and pick up the car check it all over thoroughly for any dents or scrapes. If it has any then highlight it before you agree to pick it up. This saves any problems when you return it as if it has not been noted on the official paperwork you can be left liable and therefore out of pocket. Take your time in doing this part before you drive off.

So to summarise things you should shop around and take great care in thinking about the exact car that you are going to need. Take the numbers, length of hire and time of year into consideration before trying to get the best deal. Also remember to check the car over before you drive away and tell the company about any problems you spot before you sign the paperwork.
