A deductible, to begin with, is the part of a loss that you must pay. In the case of car accident, your deductible may vary. It all depends on your insurance coverage and the level of faulty you have in the accident. There are five Types of automobile insurance deductibles.Deductibles can be split into Specific Perils, Collision, Upset or Comprehensive or and All damages coverages.

Actually, you can pay less on premium coverages by possessing a deductible coverage on DC.PD (Direct Compensation Property Damage)or increasing the deductible in other coverages.

For instance, instead of having a $300 deductible on comprehensive coverage, you have a higher deductible of $500. This will save your Comprehensive premium approximately 10%.

Those savings are possible because having higher deductibles imply that you pay more on the cost of repairing your own car and your company only pays fewer percentage of the total cost. Consequently, you will get lower premium.

You can always choose to have lower deductibles if you can meet the requirements and your insurance company offers them. Note that your premium will be higher this way. Also notice that because Comprehensive and Collision or Upset coverages are elective, your insurance company might want you to have higher deductibles if you have a record of many prior claims.

For older cars, your best option is to decrease your entire premium. This can be done by eliminating the Comprehensive and Collision or Upset Coverages.

Third-Party Liability Coverage: This is the policy section of an automobile insurance that will protect you if you cause someone get injured or killed in an accident. This policy will pay the claims from the lawsuit against you. It will pay as much as your coverage limits as well as the cost for solving the claims. The legal rules require you to have a minimum of $200.000 for this coverage.

Statutory Accident Benefits Coverage: This policy will give you the benefit in case you are injured in a car accident, no matter who is responsible for the incident. It covers additional fees like attendant care, medical expenses. Caregiver, rehabilitation, wage replacement, and non earner benefits.

Direct Compensation - Property Damage (DC.PD) Coverage: This policy section covers damages to your car and its contents as well as the loss of use of your car and anything in it. This only covers when the accident is caused by someone else. It's called direct compensation since it is you do not need to collect your claim from the guilty person but from your insurance company right away.

Note: DC-PD only give coverage for you under these circumstances: The accident happened in Ontario; There was more than one vehicle involved in the accident; and At least one of the other vehicles is also insured by an insurance company that is licensed in Ontario. Otherwise the company must have signed a special agreement with FSCO to provide this coverage.

If those requirements are not be fulfilled, you could process a claim on your optional Collision coverages, regardless your degree of guilt.
