Digital breathalyzers are a powerful tool. While there are many products on the market designed to detect the presence of alcohol, such as the plethora of disposable blood-alcohol content tests, taking an accurate reading, or even using the product at all can be difficult. While disposable tests rely on a certain color to change to another certain color if the BAC is above a certain level, a digital breathalyzer can offer its user a convenient digital readout at any BAC level, and unlike disposable breathalyzers, it is capable of informing its user of the actual BAC level that it detects. The uses of such a product are varied. However, there are two main categories of users, professionals and consumers.

Professionals are the more traditional users of this kind of product. While professionals usually operate a digital breathalyzer that has been designated as being of professional quality, meaning that it has been extensively tested for accuracy, the device is much the same as those used by consumers. Police officers use them on traffic stops to determine if a vehicle operator is above the legal alcohol limit or not. Medical professionals can use the device to determine if a patient is under the influence of alcohol, and if so, they can detect the patient's level of intoxication.

While there are many well-known professional uses of a digital breathalyzer, the benefit of the product to the average consumer can sometimes be ignored. However, there are many various reasons why a non-professional would purchase and operate these products. For parents, these devices offer an efficient, convenient, and mostly unobtrusive method for monitoring their teenager's use of alcohol. For schools, workplaces, or other organizations with a no tolerance policy, a personal breathalyzer can aid in the enforcement of these policies.

It should be noted that these breathalyzers are not restricted in their use to detecting alcohol content in minors or employees, they can be employed in useful ways for people who are drinking. Having such a detector on hand which is capable of rendering an accurate reading on an easy-to-read digital screen can offer social drinkers the opportunity to track their own level of intoxication. It can be used to check if another drink is a good idea or not, or whether or not driving a car is a legal or illegal course of action. Additionally, they can be used to humorously check friends' BAC when they declare that they are not intoxicated.

A digital breathalyzer is a boon to professionals and private consumers alike. With their multiple usability, accuracy and easy to read results, these devices are a reasonable investment.
