Blu ray players, also known as "Blue Ray players" or just Blu-rays, are devices which are designed to play high definition Blu ray movies and discs. They've become increasingly popular over the last few years and becoming the standard format for films and video games. To keep your Blu Ray player in prime working condition, make sure to keep its surface uncluttered and dust free and to clean its lens on a regular basis.

Regular household dust will undoubtedly collect on top of the player from time to time and can be controlled by dusting the object every few days. Prolonged dust and clutter, however, could cause the build up in the back of the player and lead to more serious problems for the device. The lens of the device is located inside of it and is quite susceptible to dust. By allowing dust to gather on the player or inserting dusty Blu ray discs into it, you can create a problem for the lens.

Turn the player over and use a screwdriver to take off the edge screws. Then, you can remove the bottom plate and the next set of screws underneath. The screws have a metal washer between them and the console so be sure to remember to insert them again after you are finished. Once all of the screws have been removed, place them all in a bowl or cup together so they will be safe while you clean the lens.

After the base plates have been removed, you can extract the connectors that control the motherboard. Once all the screws have been taken out, the Blu-ray's motherboard connectors should slide right out. The cable will remain connected to the player's motherboard.

Next, you will need to remove the motherboard. Carefully, lift it from the cable connection by pulling it up and to the right. Make sure that you don't yank or forcefully pull the cable out. To prevent damaging it, firmly grip it and remove it delicately.

Turn the Blu ray player back over so that it is upright and unscrew the four screws holding the top plate in place. Next, remove the screw that is holding the lens plate and push the lens carefully to the right.

With the delicate lens in this position, you can now easily clean it. Use a special lens cleaner to carefully wipe off the lens. The cleaner can be purchased at any electronics or department store in the same section that the Blu-rays are sold. Use a clean cotton ball or swab when you go over the lens to avoid scratching it.

Then, with a dry cotton swab or cotton ball, wipe the lens off until it is completely dry. Once the lens is clean and totally dry, you can then reassemble your player. Follow all of the previous steps in reverse to accomplish this, just make sure you do it slowly and carefully. You should also make sure that you remember to insert the metal washers in between all of the screws as well.
