So you have a company running and your investors need to be kept abreast of the latest happenings. You may have a dedicated person for the role or an entire department, but if you haven't, then now is the time to attract investors to your company.

Easier said than done, right?

Well with having an investor relation program you can ensure that you are sending the right messages to the right market and it will also keep your current investors happy.

Never underestimate the importance of a good investor relation program within your company as your market value is a combination of performance and ensuring that financial audiences are aware of your company's performance. It will also expose your key message to financial investors and can turn a passive investor into an active investor with a bit of effort.

If your company is planning to go public, then we would advise that you start looking at a 'Go Public' firm that can help you in establishing positive investor relations. You may have specific objectives in mind or a rough idea, but by talking to an expert on how to improve investor relations, you are sure to attract the right type of investors to your company.

Investor relations involve three aspects that are essential, which are:

1) Communication
2) Marketing and Securities law compliance
3) Finance

A typical investor relations (IR) officer will be responsible for press conferences, shareholder meetings, one-on-one briefings with investors which are held as private meetings, updating of company website and the company's annual reports. There might be additional tasks that aren't mentioned here, but will be just as important.

When deciding what you need for your company, it's best to keep the following in mind:

1) Your company needs to be able to deliver the right message to the right market and investors. It's essential when times get tough that current investors will foster understanding and share some sense of partnership with your company to stand by you when it's needed most.

2) Key relationships need to be maintained between your company and institutional and retail shareholders. The same with market makers, specialists and brokers that will be important to your company.

3) You need to ensure that you get the feedback of your market and this in turn will help your investor relations over the long haul.

4) You will also need to ensure that your company stays consistent with it's ideas and goals and if you can get professional help in organizing events, I would say now is the best time to start thinking about it. Planning your events will also play a major role in your investor relation program and it will help to talk to a specialist, 'Go Public'.

By going public with your company you can be sure of the fact that you can raise the much needed capital, but it also depends on investor relations and which is why it's so important to take that step now and see how you can improve investor relations in your company.
