An ideal fitted kitchen is one that meshes together the key elements of functionality and efficiency all while it holds to a particular sense of style. The style and layout of your kitchen is entirely up to you and, of course, what the layout of your house will allow for. The main item to consider first when designing your kitchen is the floor plan, more commonly known as the layout. There are many different types of layouts, such as the single line layout. This is a popular design among those who have rather narrow kitchen space. Although this layout makes for longer walking distances due to all of the appliances and counters being lined up in a row, there are ways to work around that to maximize efficiency, such as placing certain appliances in key positions.

If you are in an area where space is limited but not necessarily narrow, which would call for a single line, there is the galley layout. A galley layout helps make the best of small spaces and in kitchens such as these, any work done in the kitchen flows in a smooth manner. As uninteresting as this layout may sound, this is actually one that is ideal for many professional chefs because of the efficiency that this layout tends to promote.

L shaped fitted kitchens, whether single or double, work great in homes that have a bit more space to dedicate to their kitchen. The single L is the most popular, because it opens up the kitchen, while still having all the necessary equipment and counter space which allows for easy maneuvering around the kitchen itself. The benefit of the double L is the extra storage space, such as cabinets, and with the extra kitchen cabinets there obviously comes extra counter space, as well. These are typically used in larger kitchens where there is more than one person occupying the kitchen area.

There are many other types of kitchen layouts you can choose from, such as the island kitchen or the U shaped kitchen. Designing your own kitchen can be quite a task, as there are many things to keep in mind, and it can be difficult not to get caught up in the aesthetics of the designs rather than the efficiency of the kitchen itself. It is extremely important to avoid an over focus on aesthetics, because when it comes down to it, the kitchen may very well be the heart of the home due to the functions it serves. Not only does a kitchen provide you and your loved ones with delicious food, it can be the source of great memories, too.
