Marriage is the most important time in women's life. All the people want have a perfect time, any details are important.
The tradition of a coin in the bride' s shoe is ancient and found in many cultures. What's fascinating about the version is that the Nigerians practice exactly the same tradition and have for century. Is this just a good idea that happened all over the world at the same time? Or are we going to find out that the Vikings were in Nigeria? Or that the Nigerians were in Sweden? Anyway, back to the bride.
Before a bride leaves for her wedding, her mother stands on her right and her father on her left. The mother hands the bride a gold coin for her shoe and the father a silver. This is known as the Wealth Blessing. The gift is to ensure that the bride is never without her own money.
In today's world with today's shoes, you're probably better off taping them underneath the vamp of your high heels. Just another way that duct tape is an important part of weddings.
In traditional wedding vows, there's a line that says "with all my worldly goods, I thee endow." You might want to update this a bit for your wedding ceremony. After all, it's no longer the case in most couples that the groom works outside the home for money and the bride inside the house for the family. As part of your marriage planning, figure out how you will arrange your money between you. Do you have a yours, mine, ours and savings account? Or have you decided to share your finances completely? Recount following the tradition in your wedding ceremony. Allude to your decisions to share your finances as well as your lives in your wedding vows.
If you want to update your tradition in keeping with the way marriage has evolved, it might be a lovely thing for the groom's parents to do as well. (I can muster arguments for both sides of the whether or not you reverse the sides of the groom on which the parents stand and the metal of the coins. So you choose. Just list your reasons for your choice.) That way both partners are equal in financial responsibilities. Again I'd tape the coins on the bottom of your shoes. If you're going to be dancing fools, you don't want to hurt your feet. Your money decisions may involve sacrifice, but there's a limit to the pain you should indulge to reach your financial goals!
Use this tradition as an opportunity to gain some clarity about the money management style and tradition you want to establish in your life together. And then? Have a great wedding and a very happy marriage.
