The time to paint a home's exterior depends on a number of things and can vary from climate to climate. Some exterior home surfaces have to be painted every year, while other surfaces, like windowsills need to be painted only every three years. Other home surfaces which already have one coat of paint will not need another for five years. A surface with two coats of paint may last eight to ten years and still look good during most of those years.

There are also visible signs which can indicate that a home's exterior needs to be painted. Mildew and mold, for example grow on the paint's surface and reproduce in the microscopic pieces of a paint job, and when the sun fuels them the moisture holds these tiny pieces. As the paint surface gets older and more porous, these microscopic pieces get roughed up and grow on the older surface. If a power wash cannot remove them, then it is undoubtedly time to call in the Atlanta painting contractors.

Another time to consider painting the home's exterior is when the paint color begins to fade as the constant ultraviolet rays of the sun break down the paint and cause the painted surface to get lighter and lighter. Eventually it will lose most of its bright color. If the paint surface is allowed to actually break down, then chalking occurs and yellow dust resulting from the sunlight beating down on the paint surface begins to appear, this is an alternative indication that the homeowner should get in touch with Atlanta painting contractors to prevent the home's exterior from suffering more damage.

Peeling paint is evidence of the last phase of paint failure, at which point there is no longer a way to protect the surface beneath the paint, because it has been exposed and in the future it will be vulnerable to wood rot, delaminating or rotting stucco. These affected sections need to be touched up immediately, or completely recoated to protect the surfaces below.

An extraordinary indication that work is needed is when the fibers in the natural wood on the home's exterior begin to crack. If this happens, there is an immediate need to repaint or stain the wood in order to keep it from splintering and rotting. If the home is in the Atlanta area, it is definitely time to contact house painters in Atlanta.

Color consultants are always available to a homeowner at paint stores when the homeowner decides to repaint his or her home using new color trends.
