One would be surprised on how much plastic fasteners play a key part in everyday life. Nearly every automobile on the road is being held together in some way or another by a synthetic fastener. Plumbers are now making the transition in many ways from using old metal fasteners that would rust and get stuck. They are now choosing to use these same pieces but made from durable nylon due to its many advantages. Even on a smaller scale, computer components are utilizing these fasteners to keep the housing, wiring and circuitry together and functional.

Nylon fastener is a general term for many things that can act as a bit fastening one object to another. Some examples of these fasteners are screws, washers, nuts, spacers, clips, fir tree clips and rivets. A lot of these items are commonly made from metals; primarily steel, but also in brass or other metals. Nylon fasteners can also be anything from cable and wire holders to decorative items used to secure an item while supplying the finished look for the piece.

These nonmetal fasteners offer many benefits as they have superior resistance to rust, corrosion, abrasion, vibration and most oils and chemicals. Unlike metals, nylon provides limited torque, making them ideal when being used where potential damage from the fastener is a major concern. Plastic weighs less then metals and can be used to reduce a products overall weight when needed. In electronics, the high dielectric coefficient of nylon is ideal to provide electrical isolation to prevent dangerous electrical shorts or loss of signal integrity. The wide variety of nylon fasteners that are commonly available include numerous, easy to install designs that do not require the use of any tools; just a pair of hands.

Depending on the application in which the fastener will reside, nylon plastic would be the ideal option over other material in many cases. If it will be in a harsh environment that has high heat or require high tensile strength, then thermoplastics may not be the best option as metals do provide more strength and heat resistance.

There are several benefits to choosing one of the many different styles of nylon plastic fasteners for general needs. The wisest thing to do is consider the situation, research all options and visit online resources. All these components can be compared online but it all depends on what fulfills the requirements for the project.
