When a student sizes up the task of thesis writing, the hardest part is usually picking a topic. When you have the right thesis topic, the rest of the process seems to fall into place. The problem with most students and thesis writing is that they do not choose a topic that suits them or their interests. A thesis should be about something that the student is passionate about, even if they do not know all about it just yet. The perfect thesis writing topic is one that you both love and know at least something about.

Ideas for thesis writing topics are all over the Internet and the world around you. Needless to say, you will want to try to relate your thesis to your college focus if possible. This can elevate you in future job interviews and prospects, not to mention your grade. Another fine way to pick a thesis writing topic is to look at your upcoming class schedule. When you are learning about the subject as you work through your paper, it helps you to focus your thesis. It also helps you to get a fantastic grade in the class.

The next thing to consider with our thesis is the size of your topic. Most every student will pick a thesis project that is much too broad in the beginning. Knowing this ahead of time, you should begin to narrow your focus from the start. The best rule of thumb is to ask yourself if you can describe your paper in a single paragraph. If you can not do this, you are way too big in your aim. Thesis writing is about becoming an expert at a single thing or argument.

For example, if you were going to do your writing on the subject of Tigers, this is much too broad. How about Bengal Tigers? Too broad still. How about Albino Bengal Tigers. Getting better. How about the mating habits of Bengal Tigers. That could work. To get even more specific would be even better. The mating habits of Bengal Tigers in the Wild would work even better. You get the idea. Keep narrowing your thesis writing idea until you can realistically become an expert on it within several months.

Having a writing topic that is too broad hurts you on many levels. First of all, you can not realistically learn all the information. Secondly, the paper will come across as short sighted. Finally, you will inevitably leave something important out in the end. Remember, your paper will be judged by people who know something about it more than likely. If you leave out vitally important information, then that will effect your grade.

Finding the right topic is not rocket science, nor is it an exercise in futility. If you take the time to pick the right topic, narrow it and then passionately learn the subject matter, your thesis writing will be a huge success. Do not try to reinvent the thesis wheel - simply be sure to pick the right topic the first time, and then narrow it to a fine point.
